Teen Falls 30-40 Meters During Caving Rescue Operation in Western Galilee

A 16-year-old boy fell approximately 30 to 40 meters while rappelling in the Keshet Cave area of the Western Galilee on Sunday. Emergency medical teams from Magen David Adom found him unconscious at the scene. Fire and rescue units from the Zevulun station and the Special Rescue Unit (YILM) from the Krayot station were dispatched immediately. Additional rescue teams from the Galil-Carmel unit and the airborne Unit 669 were also sent to assist. Police from the Nahariya station are present at the site.

This incident follows a recent case where an 11-year-old boy was moderately injured after falling four meters in Ma'alot-Tarshiha. In a related rescue operation in April 2025, multiple fire and rescue teams from northern and coastal districts, alongside special rescue units, extracted a woman trapped during a rappelling climb in the nearby Yonim Cave near Gil'on. The woman was suspended about 20 meters above ground for roughly two hours before being rescued and treated for exhaustion and dizziness. Her companion managed to climb out independently.

The Keshet Cave rescue is ongoing as teams continue to assess and stabilize the injured teenager. Authorities have not yet released further details on his condition or the circumstances leading to the fall.
