Villeurbanne Collapse Opens Door for Keaton Wallace to Join Maccabi Tel Aviv

Maccabi Tel Aviv announced the signing of guard Keaton Wallace as their final addition for the 2026/2027 season. Wallace was initially expected to join Panathinaikos, but the financial collapse of the French club Villeurbanne, led by Tony Parker, altered the transfer landscape. The key figure in this shift was Silvain Francisco, a star player originally slated to lead Villeurbanne's project. Francisco left Villeurbanne without playing a game to join Panathinaikos, disrupting their recruitment plans and freeing Wallace from his expected move there.

With Francisco's departure, Panathinaikos secured him as a major summer acquisition, leaving Wallace available. Maccabi Tel Aviv's coaching staff quickly moved to sign Wallace, who was among several candidates considered for the roster. Head coach Ketsch believed in Wallace's potential to contribute effectively to the team being built over the summer. Wallace now aims to make a strong impression in his first EuroLeague season with Maccabi.

This signing follows a similar pattern to that of Daniel Tice, whose arrival was also influenced by the Villeurbanne project's collapse. The financial turmoil at Villeurbanne indirectly facilitated Maccabi's roster strengthening ahead of the new season.
