Yoav Eliasi Under Investigation by Police Oversight Unit After Suspension

Yoav Eliasi, known as "HaTzel," has entered an investigation by the Police Internal Investigations Department (Mahash) following allegations that he improperly contacted police officials regarding a club he co-owned. Earlier in the week, a police officer from the Tel Aviv district was questioned in connection with the case. Eliasi, who serves as a volunteer deputy chief of the Tel Aviv readiness unit with the rank of deputy chief inspector, requested suspension of his volunteer duties, which was approved by Tel Aviv District Commander Chief Superintendent Haim Saragroff on Thursday.

The investigation follows a report published by Haaretz alleging that Eliasi exploited his police connections to prevent enforcement actions against the club. Eliasi responded to the allegations by stating, "I boasted, I did not act unlawfully." Shashi Gaz, commenting on the case, emphasized the need for investigators to verify each claim individually to determine whether Eliasi truly used his police ties or merely exaggerated to impress friends. Gaz noted that people often boast about connections or achievements that may not be entirely accurate in casual conversations.

The case highlights concerns about potential misuse of police influence by volunteer officers and is ongoing as Mahash continues its inquiry into the matter.
