Rapper Yoav Eliasi Investigated by Israeli Police Oversight Unit Amid Corruption Allegations

Yoav Eliasi, known as "The Shadow," a rapper and commander of the rapid response unit in Tel Aviv, was investigated on Wednesday by the Police Investigations Department following his suspension by Police Commissioner Danni Levi. The suspension came after journalist Josh Briner published a report in Haaretz revealing Eliasi's claims of close ties with police officials who allegedly helped prevent the closure of a nightlife venue he co-owned.

Recordings surfaced in which Eliasi demanded that any police inquiries about the club be directed to him immediately, at any hour. When informed that police ordered the club's closure during the night due to a violent incident, Eliasi expressed anger, requested the identity of the officer involved, and said he would speak with him personally. He also referred to police officer Menashe Menzur from the Lev Tel Aviv station as a close friend, saying, "Menashe is like a brother, I will talk to him now."

Following these revelations, Eliasi's firearm was confiscated, and the Police Investigations Department launched a probe into the information disclosed in the report. The investigation is ongoing as authorities examine the extent of Eliasi's alleged improper influence within the police force.
