Israeli Father Drowns in Cyprus During Family Vacation in Limassol

Yaakov (Kobi) Yedid, a 35-year-old Jerusalem resident and father of four, tragically drowned while swimming with his family in Limassol, Cyprus. The incident occurred during a family holiday after Kobi had completed a long reserve military service. At one point, Kobi disappeared underwater while swimming with his wife and children. His wife, Rivka, immediately contacted local rescue teams and remained on the shore during the two-hour search.

A drone assisting the rescue operation eventually spotted Kobi floating lifeless in the water. Rescue teams recovered his body, confirming his death. Kobi's sisters and other family members had traveled to Cyprus to support Rivka and the children during the ordeal. His sister described him as a devoted husband and exemplary father with a big heart who brought pride and joy to his family.

ZAKA's international division quickly coordinated with local authorities to handle Kobi's remains respectfully and arranged for his body to be flown back to Israel for burial. ZAKA's operations deputy director, Chaim Weingarten, stated that they are working closely with the Israeli Foreign Ministry and Cypriot officials to support the family throughout the process. Kobi's funeral is expected to take place in Israel in the coming hours.
