Large Wildfire Near Ben Shemen Forest Closes Major Highways Amid Strong Winds

A large wildfire broke out near the Ben Shemen Forest on Tuesday afternoon, rapidly spreading due to strong winds. Firefighting efforts involve 14 fire crews and four firefighting aircraft working to contain the blaze, which is producing thick smoke and high flames. The fire has caused significant traffic disruptions, leading to the complete closure of Highway 6 in both directions near the Daniel Interchange and the closure of Highway 1 eastbound near Ben Shemen.

The Israel Fire and Rescue Services reported that firefighters from the Ayalon station are actively combating the open-area fire, but wind conditions are hampering efforts and accelerating the fire's spread. Police have sealed off Highway 6 entirely, redirecting traffic to Highway 444, while eastbound traffic on Highway 1 is being diverted to Highway 443.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area, follow emergency personnel instructions, and use navigation apps to find alternative routes. The situation remains dynamic as firefighting teams continue their work to control the fire and reopen the affected roads.
