Large Forest Fire in Ben Shemen Causes Major Road Closures in Central Israel

A large fire broke out on Tuesday in the open area of Ben Shemen Forest, central Israel, leading to significant traffic disruptions. The fire, fueled by strong winds, has rapidly spread, producing heavy smoke and high flames visible from afar. Firefighters from the Ayalon station, supported by 14 firefighting teams and four firefighting aircraft, are actively working to contain the blaze near the highway.

Due to the intensity of the fire and smoke, the police have closed Highway 6 in both directions near the Daniel Interchange, redirecting traffic to Route 444. Additionally, Highway 1 eastbound towards Jerusalem is closed near Ben Shemen, with traffic diverted to Route 443. Police and firefighting authorities have urged the public to avoid the area and follow instructions from security and emergency personnel on site.

Multiple police units are deployed around Ben Shemen, Highways 1 and 6, and surrounding roads to manage traffic flow and assist drivers. Authorities have warned against stopping on the roadside or making U-turns to bypass closures, citing risks to human life and emergency operations. Drivers are advised to plan their routes in advance and use navigation apps while complying with police directions.
