Israel Hits Peak of Intense Heatwave with Temperatures Up to 46.5°C Before Cooling Begins

Israel is experiencing the peak of a severe heatwave on Sunday, with temperatures rising further and reaching up to 46.5 degrees Celsius in some areas. The Jordan Valley is expected to see the highest temperatures, around 46.5°C, while the Sea of Galilee region will reach approximately 45°C. Coastal areas will remain cooler at about 30°C, but high humidity levels of 70% to 75% will cause extreme heat discomfort across the country.

Despite the oppressive heat, around 60,000 people were reported to have spent time outdoors across Israel over the weekend. The heatwave is expected to ease starting Monday, with a slight drop in temperatures mainly in the mountainous and inland regions, though it will still be hotter than usual and humid along the coastal plain. Afternoon winds are forecast to strengthen, especially in the hills and inland areas.

By Tuesday, the cooling trend will continue with further temperature decreases, particularly in the mountains and inland, but the weather will remain warmer than typical for this season. Heavy heat stress conditions are still expected in most parts of the country. Recorded temperatures include 45.2°C in the Jordan Valley and a high of 49°C in Eilat. Other cities' temperature ranges for Sunday include Jerusalem (27-35°C), Tel Aviv-Yafo (26-33°C), Haifa (28-31°C), Kiryat Shmona (23-40°C), Safed (23-37°C), Tiberias (25-40°C), Ashdod (27-33°C), Beersheba (24-38°C), Mitzpe Ramon (24-34°C), and Eilat (30-49°C).
