Heatwave in Israel Peaks Sunday with Temperatures Up to 46°C in Jordan Valley

Israel is experiencing a short heatwave that will reach its peak on Sunday, with temperatures in the Jordan Valley expected to hit between 45 and 46 degrees Celsius. Saturday will see a further rise in temperatures, especially in the mountainous and inland areas, where the weather will be hot and dry due to low humidity. Coastal plains will experience hot and humid conditions, contributing to a heavy heat burden across the country.

Despite the intense heat, meteorologists emphasize that this is not an unusual or extreme heatwave for Israel, with similar conditions occurring several times each August. No new temperature records are expected to be broken during this event. On Sunday, the hottest day of the heatwave, temperatures will range from 38 to 40 degrees in the south and Golan Heights, 35 to 37 degrees in the lowlands, and around 36 degrees in the mountains. Coastal areas will see temperatures between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius, accompanied by high humidity.

Temperature relief will begin on Monday, though it will remain very hot, with further cooling expected on Tuesday and especially Wednesday, when temperatures will return to typical August levels. Authorities advise the public to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor exposure between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., and use sun protection such as hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen. They also warn against leaving children or pets in closed vehicles, as temperatures inside can quickly reach life-threatening levels. Pets should be kept in shaded, ventilated areas with constant access to water.
