Suspect Confesses to Murder of Rabbi Amos Guetta in Netanya

A month after the murder of Rabbi Amos Guetta in Netanya, a major development emerged in the investigation. The 36-year-old suspect confessed to the Sharon District Police during interrogation, explaining his actions by calling the rabbi a "false messiah." Following this confession, the Central District Prosecutor's Office is expected to file an indictment against him for murder under aggravating circumstances.

Initially, the suspect tried to remain silent and pretended to be unable to speak. However, during a police interrogation exercise, he spoke after requesting a cola instead of water. Investigators then confronted him with the evidence collected, leading to his admission and explanation regarding the rabbi.

The incident occurred on the morning of July 1, when police received a report of an attack at the rabbi's home in Netanya. Police arrived quickly and launched a manhunt while medical teams transported the rabbi to Laniado Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Central District Police Commander Amir Cohen assigned the Sharon District Police to lead the investigation.

Forensic evidence, witness testimonies, and interrogation exercises revealed that the suspect entered the rabbi's home under the pretense of prayer and allegedly stabbed him. The rabbi's assistant, who tried to subdue the attacker, sustained minor injuries. The suspect fled but was soon located and arrested by Netanya station detectives and Sharon District investigators. The murder weapon, a knife, was recovered at the scene.

The suspect underwent a psychiatric evaluation and was deemed fit to stand trial. With the upcoming indictment, the case will move from investigation to the judicial process.
