Israeli Reservist Accused of Espionage for Iran from Top Secret IDF Unit

A 28-year-old Israeli reservist serving in one of the Israel Defense Forces' most classified units has been indicted for espionage activities involving Iranian intelligence. The indictment, filed about two weeks ago by the Cyber Department of the State Prosecutor's Office, charges him with contact with a foreign agent and attempting to pass sensitive information to benefit the enemy. The case emerged after Iranian operatives contacted the reservist via the Telegram app as part of a mass recruitment effort. He responded positively and was asked to prove his seriousness by carrying out minor tasks such as graffiti spraying and arson, which he refused, stating, "I am not for small jobs. I know a lot - I am for the big missions." He expressed interest in providing more significant intelligence due to his classified knowledge.

Investigations by the Israel Police's National Fraud Unit and the Shin Bet revealed that Iran managed to recruit him only briefly before security forces arrested him. The inquiry also uncovered that he was asked to help recruit another soldier for Iranian intelligence. Authorities issued a joint warning urging Israeli citizens to avoid contact with foreign agents from enemy states and to report any suspicious interactions. The security agencies emphasized their commitment to thwarting espionage and terrorism activities against Israel.
