Israeli Reservist Indicted for Espionage for Iran in Classified Unit
On July 16, the Israeli prosecution filed an indictment at the Tel Aviv District Court against an Israeli citizen who served both in active duty and reserves in a classified military unit. The charges include contact with a foreign agent and attempting to pass intelligence to benefit an enemy. The court has reduced the scope of the gag order previously imposed on the case. Investigations by the Ministry of Defense and the Shin Bet revealed that the accused maintained contact with an individual who identified as an Iranian intelligence operative. At one point, the accused was asked to assist in recruiting a soldier to establish contact with these Iranian agents.
