Israeli Reservist from Top Secret Unit Charged with Espionage for Iran

A 28-year-old Israeli reservist serving in one of the Israel Defense Forces' most classified units has been indicted for espionage activities involving Iranian intelligence agents. The indictment, filed about two weeks ago by the Cyber Department of the State Prosecutor's Office, accuses him of contact with a foreign agent and attempting to pass sensitive information to benefit an enemy. The case emerged after Iranian operatives contacted the reservist via the Telegram app as part of a mass recruitment campaign. He responded positively and was asked to prove his seriousness by carrying out minor tasks such as graffiti spraying and arson, which he rejected, stating, "I am not for small jobs. I know a lot - I am for the big missions." He expressed interest in more significant assignments due to his classified knowledge.

Investigations by the joint efforts of the National Cyber Crime Unit, the Ministry of Defense's Intelligence Unit, and the Shin Bet revealed that Iran managed to recruit him for a short period. Security forces monitored him until his arrest by the Shin Bet and police. Further inquiry uncovered that he was later asked to assist in recruiting another soldier for Iranian intelligence. Authorities issued a joint warning urging citizens to avoid contact with foreign enemy agents or unidentified parties and to report any suspicious interactions. The security agencies emphasized their commitment to thwarting terrorism and espionage activities against Israel.
