Israeli Reservist Accused of Espionage for Iran Denies Charges as 'Joke'

An Israeli civilian who served in both regular and reserve duty in a classified military unit has been charged with espionage on behalf of Iran. The indictment, filed at the Tel Aviv District Court, accuses him of attempting to pass information to benefit an enemy. A source familiar with the case described it as one of the most serious and shocking espionage incidents uncovered.

The suspect's lawyer, Nati Rom, dismissed the charges as an "esoteric event" involving at most carelessness. Rom emphasized that his client, who dedicated his life to Israel's security at great personal cost, is being treated as if he were a terrorist. He denied any malicious intent, greed, or desire to harm national security, calling the case an unsuccessful joke. Rom stated that the facts do not support the alleged offenses and promised to prove this during the trial once the evidence is reviewed.

Rom also expressed regret that the security establishment's efforts to promote caution in handling sensitive information and interactions with hostile entities come at the expense of loyal and conscientious citizens who have done nothing wrong.
