Foreign National Arrested for Espionage on Behalf of Iran in Israel
Last month, Bahroz Subirjon, a Tajikistani citizen holding a Russian passport, was arrested on suspicion of maintaining continuous contact with Iranian intelligence and gathering sensitive information on missile strikes in Israel. The arrest was the result of a joint operation by the Central Unit "Erazim" in the Israeli Police and Shin Bet investigators. The investigation revealed that Subirjon's espionage activities began in January of this year and intensified during the recent "Operation Roaring Lion" conflict.
Subirjon actively assisted Iranian operatives by providing real-time locations of Iranian missile impacts within Israel, aiming to help improve enemy targeting accuracy. He also supplied precise geographic coordinates of key sites such as the Azrieli Towers in Tel Aviv, photographed Haifa port, and attempted, unsuccessfully, to photograph a classified security facility in northern Israel.
The initial contact with Subirjon was disguised as a legitimate job offer online, but he quickly realized it was from Iranian security agents. Despite this, he consciously deepened his involvement and carried out numerous sensitive intelligence tasks. Moreover, he attempted to recruit additional agents within Israel to support the Iranian intelligence network. This case highlights a serious breach of Israeli national security and ongoing Iranian espionage efforts within the country.
