Foreign Nationals Charged for Espionage Activities on Behalf of Iran in Israel
Authorities have filed charges against Bahroz Subirgon, a Tajikistani citizen holding a Russian passport, arrested last month on suspicion of security offenses involving collaboration with Iranian intelligence agents. The indictment, submitted to the Tel Aviv District Court, alleges that since January, Subirgon maintained contact with an Iranian foreign agent and carried out intelligence tasks during the recent "Lion's Roar" conflict to aid Iran's operational goals against Israel. His activities included documenting locations of Iranian missile impacts, marking the Azrieli Towers on maps, photographing Haifa port, and attempting to film a sensitive security facility in northern Israel. Additionally, he actively recruited others for Iranian intelligence missions.
Separately, a 20-year-old Jewish American man was also charged for maintaining contact with an Iranian foreign agent and conducting intelligence-gathering tasks across Israel. Investigations by the Jerusalem District Central Unit, under a gag order, revealed that the suspect regularly communicated with Iranian intelligence operatives over recent months. He was tasked with photographing sensitive sites and received payments ranging from tens to hundreds of dollars per assignment.
Both cases highlight ongoing Iranian intelligence efforts to collect information within Israel and recruit local and foreign individuals for espionage activities. The suspects remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.
