Tajikistani National With Russian Passport Arrested for Spying for Iran in Israel
The Israeli Ministry of Defense, Shin Bet, and police announced that an indictment has been filed against Bahroz Subirgon, a foreign national from Tajikistan holding a Russian passport, who was arrested last month on suspicion of conducting intelligence operations for Iranian agencies. Investigations revealed that Subirgon communicated with an Iranian foreign agent and primarily carried out his espionage activities during the "Operation Breaking Dawn" conflict.
His tasks included documenting and transmitting locations of Iranian missile impacts during the operation, providing coordinates of the Azrieli Towers in Tel Aviv, photographing Haifa port, and attempting to photograph a sensitive security facility in northern Israel. Additionally, he assisted in recruiting others to support Iranian intelligence missions.
The indictment marks a significant step in countering Iranian espionage efforts within Israel, highlighting the ongoing security challenges posed by foreign intelligence operatives using foreign nationals as agents.
