Tajikistani Citizen Arrested in Israel for Espionage on Behalf of Iran During Conflict
The Israeli Ministry of Defense, Police, and Shin Bet announced on Thursday that a statement of charges has been filed against Bahroz Subrigon, a Tajikistani citizen holding a Russian passport, who was arrested last month on suspicion of conducting intelligence operations for Iranian agents. Investigations revealed that since January, Subrigon maintained contact with an Iranian foreign agent, with most of his activities occurring during Operation "Roaring Lion," aiming to assist Iran in achieving operational successes against Israel.
The initial approach to Subrigon appeared as a seemingly innocent job offer, but he soon realized it involved an Iranian agent and continued the relationship regardless. His tasks included documenting and transmitting locations of Iranian missile impacts during the operation, providing the location of the Azrieli Towers, photographing Haifa port, and attempting to photograph a sensitive security facility in northern Israel. Additionally, Subrigon actively helped recruit others for Iranian intelligence missions.
Alongside the filing of the indictment, a request for Subrigon's detention until the end of legal proceedings was submitted to the Tel Aviv District Court. The charges against him are severe, reflecting the gravity of the espionage activities during an ongoing conflict.
