Tajikistani Citizen Charged with Espionage for Iranian Intelligence in Israel

Israeli authorities have filed a prosecutorial statement against Bahroz Subirgon, a Tajikistani citizen holding a Russian passport, on suspicion of security offenses and espionage for Iranian intelligence. The investigation revealed that since January 2026, Subirgon maintained continuous contact with an Iranian foreign agent, primarily during the "Roaring Lion" military operation. During this period, he documented locations of Iranian missile impacts, mapped key Israeli sites including the Azrieli Towers and Haifa port, and attempted to photograph a sensitive security facility in northern Israel.

The inquiry showed that Subirgon was initially approached with what seemed like a benign job offer, but he soon realized it was orchestrated by an Iranian agent. Despite this, he continued cooperating and actively assisted in recruiting others for Iranian intelligence missions. The indictment is expected to be formally submitted soon, alongside a request for his detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings.

This case highlights ongoing Iranian espionage efforts against Israel, particularly during heightened military conflicts, and underscores the vigilance of Israeli security agencies in countering such threats.
