American Citizen Arrested in Israel for Espionage on Behalf of Iran

An American man in his twenties was arrested in Israel earlier this month on suspicion of spying for Iran. Israeli police charged him with contact with a foreign agent and harming state security. A prosecutor's statement was filed on Tuesday in preparation for indictment. Investigation details revealed that the suspect conducted various intelligence tasks for Iranian operatives, including documenting and photographing sensitive sites. He received payments ranging from tens to hundreds of dollars per task. The arrest resulted from a joint operation by the Israeli Police and the Shin Bet, following intelligence from international security agencies. Amichai Panta, the lead investigator from the interrogation division, stated that several espionage suspects have been uncovered recently, some acting during wartime and aiding enemy plans within Israel. He emphasized ongoing cooperation with the Shin Bet to detect, arrest, and prosecute individuals threatening national security and citizens.
