Maccabi Tel Aviv Signs Versatile Slovenian Striker Aster Sokler for €1 Million

Maccabi Tel Aviv is set to finalize the signing of 27-year-old Slovenian striker Aster Sokler for around one million euros. Sokler is expected to replace the injured Ion Nicolescu and bring immediate impact to the team. Known as "Mr. Flexible" for his ability to play multiple attacking positions, Sokler has a proven track record in the Serbian league and is praised for his physicality and versatility.

Sokler’s football journey began in the small Slovenian town of Krško, where he gradually rose through the ranks, debuting in Slovenia’s top league at age 22. After stints with Celje and Radomlje, he moved to Scotland’s Aberdeen, where he struggled to secure a starting role but had notable moments, including scoring in a surprise win over Frankfurt in the Europa League. His career took a positive turn after a loan and subsequent permanent move to Serbian club Radnički, where he scored 15 goals in the 2025/26 season.

Sokler models his game after Wayne Rooney, combining physical presence with movement and the ability to drop deep or drift wide. Standing 1.81 meters tall and capable of sprinting at nearly 35 km/h, he fits well with Maccabi Tel Aviv’s tactical approach under coach Kenny Miller, who values dynamic forwards who contribute to build-up play. Sokler’s ability to create chances and his work rate are expected to complement key players like Dor Peretz and Ido Shahar.

Despite some inefficiency in front of goal, Sokler’s overall contribution and adaptability make him a promising addition as Maccabi prepares for European competition qualifiers this month. His signing reflects the club’s ambition to strengthen the squad with a player ready to perform immediately and develop further in the Israeli Premier League.
