Mobileye Founder Amnon Shashua Steps Down as CEO Amid Stock Drop, Plans Strategic Role

Amnon Shashua, founder and CEO of Mobileye, announced his unexpected resignation from the CEO position on July 23, 2026. He stated he will remain on Mobileye's board and may be appointed chairman. Shashua emphasized his continued commitment to Mobileye's success and expressed excitement about future opportunities. He plans to support the board and management during the transition and focus on strategic and technological aspects rather than day-to-day operations, saying, "I am originally a scientist and entrepreneur, and doing both management and technology is too much."

The announcement triggered a sharp reaction from investors, with Mobileye's stock falling approximately 17% on Wall Street. Shashua addressed the stock decline, noting that companies should not be managed based on share price fluctuations and expressed optimism about Mobileye's growth prospects. He highlighted the company's strong financials, including expected revenues of $2 billion and profits of $400 million this year, and its global workforce of over 4,000 employees.

Shashua also reflected on his recent step back from other AI ventures, such as AI21 Labs and robotics company Manti, both of which he helped found. He defended Israel's potential in artificial intelligence, calling Mobileye a "great example" of Israeli innovation and stressing the importance of national support for AI leadership.

Regarding the possibility of becoming Mobileye's chairman, Shashua said he is considering the offer but will wait to see who the next CEO will be and their qualifications before deciding. He dismissed speculation about entering politics, stating clearly, "The answer is no." Mobileye, which went public on NASDAQ, is preparing for significant expansion into new markets including B2C and human robotics, driven by rapid AI advancements.
