Several Israeli Cities Open Public Shelters Amid Security Concerns

Amid heightened security concerns and approaching weekend, multiple Israeli municipalities including Herzliya, Eilat, Ramat Gan, and Karmiel have decided to open all public bomb shelters as a precautionary measure. This move comes despite no official changes in the Home Front Command's defense guidelines.

Herzliya's Mayor Yariv Fisher held a situation assessment with the Home Front Command, security forces, rescue teams, and municipal officials, confirming that the city's public shelters remain open. Maintenance teams have been cleaning and preparing shelters to ensure full readiness. Fisher reassured residents that the city is prepared for any scenario and maintains continuous communication with security agencies.

Similarly, in Eilat, Ramat Gan, and Karmiel, public shelters have been opened with frequent inspections and maintenance checks. Authorities have urged the public to familiarize themselves with the protected spaces. Eilat's mayor announced the activation of the emergency and security department to oversee shelter readiness and enforcement patrols, requiring all dual-purpose shelter operators to be ready for immediate opening.

These proactive steps reflect local governments' caution in light of the current security situation and concerns about potential escalation, even though official defense instructions have not changed.
