Eight-Year-Old Girl Wounded in Attempted Assassination in Dier Hanna as Violence Escalates

An eight-year-old girl from Dier Hanna, who was injured in a shooting during an assassination attempt on her father, has shown improvement and is expected to be discharged from Poriya Hospital in the coming days. The girl sustained moderate injuries from gunfire to her upper body but is no longer in life-threatening condition, according to Dr. Barak Levit, head of the trauma unit at Poriya.

New footage reveals the assailants arriving by car, exiting, and scouting the building before attempting to surround it to capture their target. After failing to do so, they fled the scene. The two suspects remain at large.

Residents expressed outrage, criticizing the Shin Bet for not intervening and highlighting perceived disparities in law enforcement responses between Arab and Jewish victims. Said Hussein, head of the Dier Hanna local council, described rampant violence in the Arab sector, including shootings and ambushes, and condemned the police's inability to effectively address the situation despite increased presence and investigations.

Hussein also criticized National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir's approach, recounting a meeting after a family member's murder where Ben-Gvir offered police reinforcements but no substantial solutions. Hussein called the government's plan to involve the Shin Bet in curbing Arab sector violence a political move ahead of elections, doubting its sincerity and effectiveness without community consent.

The incident underscores ongoing security challenges and rising crime in Arab communities, with local leaders demanding more comprehensive and effective government action beyond temporary police measures.
