Israel Experiences Record Heatwave with Temperatures Near 45°C, More Heat Expected

Israel is currently enduring its hottest heatwave in the past year, with temperatures soaring across the country. On Monday, the highest temperature recorded was 44.7 degrees Celsius at the meteorological station in Sedom, near the Dead Sea, marking the highest reading since last August's heatwave. The southern regions, including the Dead Sea, Arava, and Eilat, experienced temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, accompanied by extreme heat stress levels.

Dr. Amir Givati, head of the Meteorological Service, stated that temperatures will slightly drop over the next two days but are expected to rise again by Thursday, bringing unusually hot and humid conditions, especially along the coastal strip. Heat stress warnings have been issued for most parts of the country, particularly in eastern Israel, the Jordan Valley, Judean Desert, Dead Sea area, Arava, and Eilat.

A mild relief is anticipated starting Tuesday, with central Israel seeing temperatures around 31 degrees Celsius, though it will remain hot and humid. By Wednesday, temperatures will climb back to about 33 degrees in the coastal plain, remaining above seasonal averages. Thursday will maintain heavy heat stress inland, with further fluctuations expected over the weekend. Friday may bring slight cooling, but Saturday will see temperatures rise again with intensified heat stress.

The Meteorological Service also warned of extreme UV radiation levels, reaching a UV index of 11 in the coming days. Residents are advised to avoid prolonged sun exposure during midday hours and to stay well hydrated.
