Widow of Rabbi Raziel Shevach Vows to Rebuild After Gilad Farm Fire Destroys Homes

A massive fire devastated the Gilad Farm settlement, destroying 13 homes and forcing a full evacuation. Among those affected is Yael Shevach, widow of Rabbi Raziel Shevach, who was away with her children in Kfar Saba when she learned her home was engulfed in flames. She described the fire as rapid and violent, driven by strong winds and intense heat, and believes it was a nationalist arson attack, citing celebrations and fireworks from nearby villages shortly after the fire started.

Yael Shevach lost all her possessions, including cherished mementos of her late husband, such as ritual items and family paintings. Despite the hardship, she expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming public support and donations her family has received. She highlighted the community's concern and assistance, which she called "amazing."

The fire left the settlement without water or electricity, and many families face economic difficulties as the community is not officially recognized and thus lacks insurance coverage. Two firefighters were lightly injured during the firefighting efforts. Initial investigations suggest the fire may have started from a discarded cigarette, but authorities are also examining the possibility of deliberate arson.

Despite the destruction, Shevach is determined to return and rebuild the community. She emphasized resilience, recalling previous recoveries from crises, and thanked the Israeli public for their solidarity and precise aid. The evacuation of Gilad Farm occurred yesterday following the fire's rapid spread.
