Fire Destroys Homes in Shomron Settlement Including Widow of Slain Rabbi Raziel Shevach

A massive fire broke out on Saturday in the Shomron settlement of Havot Gilad, destroying multiple buildings including the home of journalist and publicist Yael Shevach. Yael Shevach is the widow of Rabbi Raziel Shevach, who was killed in a shooting attack near the settlement in 2018. After the Sabbath ended, Yael Shevach shared her deep pain on social media, writing, "There was a fire. The house is no longer. We are okay, thank you all for your concern. I have nothing to say - and no home." Her message sparked widespread support and sympathy from friends, public figures, and thousands of online followers, shocked by the additional tragedy to the family in the same community.

The fire reportedly started near the nearby settlement of Kedumim and spread rapidly due to strong winds. Firefighters worked for hours to contain the blaze, initially trying to protect the first line of homes. However, the flames penetrated the settlement, forcing the evacuation of all residents. In total, 13 homes were completely destroyed, along with a garage and a wood storage facility. The firefighting efforts involved dozens of fire and rescue teams, with assistance from the IDF's Shomron Brigade, which helped evacuate residents. Remarkably, no casualties were reported in the incident.
