Deadly Bangkok Bar Fire Kills 27, Survivors and Families Share Harrowing Accounts

A devastating fire broke out overnight at the "Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao" bar in Bangkok, Thailand, killing at least 27 people and injuring over 70. Survivors and family members have shared emotional testimonies revealing the chaos and helplessness during the blaze. Khuadon Pongphani, a waiter at the bar, described his failed attempt to rescue his 21-year-old brother trapped inside, saying he was stopped by intense smoke, heat, and dust while hearing people screaming.

Osa Tedsri, a 41-year-old survivor, escaped moments before the fire started but lost two friends in the incident. She recounted the rapid explosion and the impossibility of escape, stating, "There was a boom, boom very fast... There was no way out at all." Among the grieving families was Jensuda Tenla, mother of a band singer who performed that night. She pleaded tearfully for any information about her son, explaining he had turned to music to help support the family after failing to complete vocational school.

Musician Sakon Miphlian, who lost a bandmate in the fire, called for stricter safety regulations, especially regarding emergency exits in entertainment venues. Kaniawan Bonruangthong, whose 23-year-old brother worked as a waiter at the bar for only a month and died from smoke inhalation, described the family's heartbreak upon learning the news.

Preliminary investigations by Bangkok police suggest gross negligence, as emergency exits were reportedly blocked and the fire likely started due to an electrical short circuit in an air conditioner. Authorities continue to probe the tragedy that has shocked the city and raised urgent calls for improved safety measures in public venues.
