At Least 27 Dead in Bangkok Business Fire as People Flee Flames
A fire broke out shortly before midnight on Sunday in a business establishment in Bangkok's Chatuchak district, killing at least 27 people, local authorities reported. The blaze started at 23:57 local time and was brought under control by firefighters within about 30 minutes. Several others were injured and taken to hospitals.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the scene, confirming the death toll and stating that the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Dramatic footage circulated on local media showed patrons escaping the smoke-filled building, with a large flame suddenly erupting from the entrance, prompting people nearby to quickly move away. Additional videos captured people crouching to avoid the flames amid screams.
