Fire at Popular Bangkok Pub Kills 27, Dozens Injured in Early Morning Blaze
A deadly fire broke out just before midnight on Sunday at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in Bangkok's Chatuchak district, killing at least 27 people and injuring others. Dramatic footage showed patrons fleeing the smoke-filled venue as a massive flame erupted from the entrance, forcing many to crouch and escape under the blaze amid screams. Firefighters contained the fire within about 30 minutes, leaving behind charred tables and chairs.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the scene and confirmed the death toll, noting that several victims were found in the restroom areas at the back of the pub. He said the cause is under investigation but cited a musician’s account of smoke emerging from an electrical switch near the stage, followed by a power outage and explosion before the fire spread rapidly.
Emergency responders are examining phones recovered from the site to aid the investigation. This tragedy follows previous deadly fires in Thailand, including a 2022 concert venue blaze that killed 14 and a 2009 nightclub fire in Bangkok that claimed 66 lives and injured over 200, reportedly caused by indoor fireworks.
Authorities continue probing the incident to determine the exact cause and prevent similar future disasters.
