Deadly Fire at Bangkok Pub Kills 27 and Injures Dozens

A devastating fire broke out at the crowded Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in Bangkok's Chatuchak district, killing at least 27 people and injuring 63 others, including 22 seriously. Firefighters managed to control the blaze within about 30 minutes, but many patrons were trapped inside the smoke-filled building. Video footage showed patrons fleeing as thick smoke engulfed the pub, with a large flame suddenly erupting at the entrance. A musician performing at the venue reported seeing smoke from an electrical switch near the stage, followed by a power outage and a loud explosion that accelerated the fire's spread.

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul stated that investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing. Many victims were found near the restrooms at the rear of the building. Authorities are examining whether emergency exits were blocked by boxes and furniture, which may have hindered evacuation. Initial assessments suggest the fire originated near the stage area, possibly due to an electrical short circuit in the air conditioning system within the building's roof. Officials are also reviewing the pub's compliance with safety and emergency regulations as part of the inquiry.
