Hamas Dissolves Gaza Government Committee to Facilitate Technocratic Management

Hamas has announced the resignation of the head and dissolution of the government monitoring committee in Gaza, transferring its powers to the National Committee for Gaza Management. This move aims to prevent Israel from having excuses to delay further arrangements and to prepare for the entry of a technocratic committee to manage Gaza. A Hamas source told AFP that the government committee will be replaced by a temporary management committee until the National Committee formally assumes control.

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem told Al Jazeera that this step is a positive move to remove Israeli pretexts and that responsibility now lies with the mediators, including guarantor states and the U.S. administration, to implement the agreement. He emphasized that Hamas has fulfilled its obligations and is now pressing mediators to facilitate the technocratic committee's entry.

Following the March 2025 killing of Ismail al-Dallas, the previous committee head, Mohammed al-Farra was appointed to lead the government committee, which consisted of twenty members. Al-Farra is expected to submit his resignation along with the committee's, transitioning to a temporary management committee.

The Hamas government information office announced a significant press conference scheduled for midday. Reports from Al-Sharq Al-Awsat indicated that Hamas leadership plans to dissolve the government monitoring committee to allow the "Gaza Management Committee," also known as the technocrats committee led by Ali Shath, to take over Gaza's administration. The official announcement was expected imminently.

Simultaneously, Hamas and other Palestinian factions reported that a new round of talks is planned in Cairo within two days to narrow gaps concerning the second phase of the fragile Gaza ceasefire agreement.
