Hamas Government in Gaza to Transfer Authority to National Management Committee
The Gaza-based Government Information Office announced on Monday that government bodies are prepared to hand over governance responsibilities to the National Committee for Gaza Management. This follows reports from two Hamas sources to the newspaper Al-Sharq Al-Awsat indicating that Hamas leadership plans to dissolve the "Committee for Monitoring Government Activity," which currently functions as Hamas's de facto government in Gaza. The move aims to allow the "Gaza Management Committee," also known as the "Technocrats Committee" and led by Ali Shath, to assume administrative control of the Gaza Strip.
One Hamas source said the dissolution announcement could come as soon as Tuesday, while another source confirmed the timing is imminent but did not specify a date. Concurrently, Hamas and other Palestinian factions reported that a new round of talks is expected in Cairo within two days to narrow differences regarding the second phase of the fragile Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Additionally, Saudi channel Al-Hadath reported the resignation of Muhammad Al-Farra, head of the Emergency Committee for Government Work Management in Gaza. These developments suggest a significant shift in Gaza's governance structure amid ongoing political negotiations and ceasefire efforts.
