Hamas Sets New Conditions, Delays Disarmament Talks in Gaza Strip

Following Hamas's announcement on Monday about effectively dissolving the Gaza Strip government, a diplomatic source stated that this declaration alone does not permit the technocratic government to enter Gaza. According to two informed sources, Hamas has recently imposed significant obstacles in negotiations with the Gaza Peace Council, retracting some previously reached agreements and presenting new demands.

Among the key issues, Hamas refused to allow access to weapons stored in tunnels as part of the disarmament process and opposed the requirement that all military means in Gaza be exclusively controlled by the technocratic government. Regarding the initiation of construction in Gaza, the diplomatic source clarified that the initial plan is to establish a temporary residential complex of caravans rather than permanent buildings. The goal is to complete this before winter to demonstrate to Gaza residents the possibility of a better future while simultaneously reducing the terrorist organization's power.

Additionally, the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, affiliated with Hezbollah, reported that mediators informed Hamas of an understanding reached with Nikolay Mladenov, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, to temporarily freeze discussions on the disarmament issue at this stage.
