Hamas Continues Obstruction Despite Gaza Disarmament Agreement

Despite the recent announcement of a framework agreement aimed at disarming Hamas and other factions in the Gaza Strip, the terrorist organization continues to impose new conditions that complicate the implementation of the deal. The agreement, declared over the weekend by former U.S. President Donald Trump, envisions transferring Gaza's management to a Palestinian national committee. However, Hamas insists on additional demands, particularly regarding the handling of its weapons.

Senior Hamas official Ghazi Hamad clarified in an interview with Al-Arabiya that the group only agreed to "store" its weapons with the Palestinian national committee, not to fully surrender them. This stance aligns with Hamas's ongoing strategy to maintain influence in Gaza by requiring the committee's presence in the territory and conditioning disarmament on Israel ceasing attacks and withdrawing its forces from Gaza.

Hamas also demands the dismantling of rival militias within Gaza, especially those supported by Israel. Shuki Abu Nuseira, leader of the "Free Homeland Forces" militia in Khan Yunis, expressed confidence that Hamas should fear them rather than the other way around, emphasizing their commitment to the people and denying any wrongdoing.

The situation in Gaza remains uncertain, as numerous agreements signed recently in Lebanon, Iran, and Gaza have failed to produce tangible progress. It is still unclear whether this latest framework will be implemented on the ground or remain merely a paper agreement.
