Hamas Transfers Gaza Governance to Technocrats Committee Amid UN Mediation
The Hamas spokesperson in Gaza announced on Monday that the committee overseeing government work is transferring its powers to the National Committee for Gaza Management, also known as the Technocrats Committee. Hamas declared that all arrangements for transferring the management of the Gaza Strip have been completed. Earlier the same day, mediators informed Hamas that, under agreements reached with UN Peace Envoy Nikolay Mladenov, discussions regarding Hamas's disarmament and the accumulated debt of the Hamas government in Gaza would be frozen.
Palestinian faction sources speaking to the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar revealed that a Hamas delegation is expected to return to Cairo by the weekend to meet directly with Mladenov and solidify the understandings reached so far. Additionally, Hamas plans to dissolve the emergency government committee and appoint a single individual to handle administrative affairs until the administrative committee can assume full management of the Gaza Strip.
