Former Hostages Sasha Tropnov and Sapir Cohen Marry in Emotional Ceremony
Sasha Tropnov and Sapir Cohen, both former hostages of Hamas, were married in a heartfelt ceremony on Sunday. The wedding took place after their release from captivity following the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack. The ceremony was officiated by Rabbi Berel Lazar, the Chief Rabbi of Russia, with blessings from Rabbi David Druck, chairman of the "Kisufim" organization. Hundreds of guests attended, applauding the couple as they celebrated their union.
Sasha and Sapir's story became widely known after they were kidnapped together from the Tropnov family home in Kibbutz Nir Oz during the Hamas assault, in which Sasha's father, Vitaly Tropnov, was killed. Alongside Sasha, his mother and grandmother were also abducted. Sapir Cohen was released in the first hostage exchange in November 2023, along with Sasha's mother and grandmother. Sasha remained captive for nearly 500 days until his release in February 2025.
The wedding marked the end of a painful chapter for the couple and the beginning of a new life together. Video footage from the event showed the couple under the chuppah, the breaking of the glass, and dancing with family and friends who gathered to celebrate their resilience and love.
