Deni Avdija and the Portland Trail Blazers are set to play the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday night. Both teams have started the season undefeated, with Portland holding a 3-0 record and Memphis at 4-0. Ahead of the matchup, Jason Timpf of The Volume Sports highlighted Avdija's significant contribution to Portland's potent offense.
Timpf described Avdija as "one of the best players in the world at driving to the basket," a skill that makes the Trail Blazers difficult to defend. He also noted the presence of Ja Morant, another elite basket driver, and the team's strong three-point shooting capabilities. Timpf emphasized the effective "two-man game" between Avdija and Damian Lillard, particularly around the three-point arc, where they create opportunities for each other through screens and spacing.
He detailed a specific play where Avdija hit a crucial three-pointer after Lillard drove and passed to him, exploiting a defensive lapse. Timpf explained that when Avdija and Lillard are on opposite wings, they excel at creating space for one another. The synergy between Avdija, Lillard, and Morant is further enhanced by their combined ability to drive to the basket and also hit three-pointers off passes, creating a dynamic offensive threat.
Timpf concluded that Portland's considerable offensive talent gives them a strong chance to remain competitive throughout the regular season and accumulate wins.
