NBA legend Carmelo Anthony highlighted the significant positive impact of Israeli player Deni Avdija on the Portland Trail Blazers' offense during a broadcast on NBC. Anthony stated that Avdija's ability to penetrate the basket and draw fouls makes scoring easier for teammates like Ja Morant and Damian Lillard, effectively simplifying their offensive roles. He noted that Avdija's size also compensates for the smaller backcourt of Morant and Lillard.
During the broadcast, analysts also suggested that the Trail Blazers perform better when Avdija is directing the offense, rather than Morant or Lillard. Reggie Miller, another NBA analyst, commented that Avdija is the player who will make a difference for the team. Avdija finished the first half of the game against Luka Dončić and the Los Angeles Lakers with 12 points, 3 assists, and 4 fouls, marking what was described as his and Portland's first true test of the season.
