NBA legend Carmelo Anthony highlighted the significant impact of Israeli player Deni Avdija on the Portland Trail Blazers' offense during a broadcast on Wednesday. Anthony stated that Avdija provides an answer for Portland's attack, particularly with his outside shooting, and uses his size to compensate for the smaller backcourt of Ja Morant and Damian Lillard. He noted that when Avdija drives to the basket, he puts pressure on the rim, allowing Morant and Lillard to score more easily.
Anthony further described Avdija as patient, skilled at finishing, drawing contact, and earning fouls. The broadcast also suggested that the Trail Blazers perform better when Avdija directs the offense, rather than Morant or Lillard. Fellow commentator Reggie Miller added that Avdija is the player who will make a difference for the team.
Avdija finished the first half of the game with 12 points, 3 assists, and 4 fouls.
