Dor Peretz has ended weeks of uncertainty by signing a new contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday. The 31-year-old, who led the Israeli Premier League in scoring last season, agreed to a three-year deal with an option for two more seasons. His salary is about 500,000 euros net per year.
The agreement came after a breakthrough earlier in the day, following a meeting after Maccabi Tel Aviv’s kit launch event. Peretz had flown to Croatia a week earlier to examine an offer from Dinamo Zagreb, and the club moved quickly as interest from European teams intensified. Maccabi Tel Aviv said it worked throughout the week to close the gaps between the sides.
Peretz finished the best season of his career with 19 league goals, including eight in the championship round. He also received offers from CSKA 1948, Ferencvaros, Omonia Nicosia and Pafos, while Beitar Jerusalem was also interested.
In a statement on the club’s official website, Maccabi Tel Aviv said Peretz had become “one of the most influential and decorated players in the history of the club,” and wished him success while expecting “many more unforgettable moments together.”
