Maccabi Tel Aviv Keeps Dor Peretz on a New Long-Term Deal
Maccabi Tel Aviv have succeeded in keeping captain Dor Peretz after a long and exhausting negotiation, with the midfielder signing a new three-year contract late Thursday that includes a two-year option. His base salary will be 500,000 euros a year, but the deal also contains a special bonus clause that can raise his earnings further if he plays in 50% of the team’s matches in a season.
Peretz does not have a goals-or-assists bonus, but the contract includes other incentives, meaning he could earn more if Maccabi are stronger than they were last season and achieve better results. He earned 550,000 euros last season, and with the new structure, the club believes he can surpass that figure.
The breakthrough came after Peretz returned from Zagreb, where he had been evaluating a move to Dinamo Zagreb. During that period, new sporting director Steven Van Noren arrived in Israel and met Peretz twice, stressing how important he is to the team. At the same time, club owner Mיץ` Goldhar was involved, and Maccabi improved their financial offer several times over the past 10 days, with the final upgrade coming Wednesday night and sealing the deal.
The two-year option could even allow the 31-year-old to finish his career at Maccabi Tel Aviv. People close to Peretz said, “Maccabi did everything to keep him,” adding, “This is an insane contract for a 31-year-old, showing how much the club values and wants him.” Peretz has already joined training and was warmly greeted by coach Kenny Miller. The signing is also seen as an important message to fans, as the club now wants to keep Roy Revivo and Ido Shahar as well.
