Dor Peretz has agreed a new contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv that will keep him among the best-paid Israeli players in the Premier League, and likely the highest-paid Israeli through at least age 34. The 31-year-old signed on Thursday after weeks of uncertainty and interest from abroad, ending a saga that included a trip to Croatia last week to consider an offer from Dinamo Zagreb.
Under the deal, Peretz will earn a net base salary of 525,000 euros in his first season, then 500,000 euros per season in the second and third years. Maccabi also holds an option to extend the agreement by two more years.
Beyond the base pay, Peretz will receive bonuses in every season tied to points, as well as championship bonuses, Israeli State Cup bonuses, and European competition bonuses. Those European incentives will depend on which tournament Maccabi reaches, the Champions League, Europa League, or Conference League.
The agreement came after a breakthrough meeting later on Thursday following the club’s kit launch event. Maccabi moved quickly after growing concerned about interest from European clubs, while Peretz also had offers from CSKA 1948, Ferencvaros, Omonia Nicosia, and Pafos, and was wanted by Beitar Jerusalem. He ends a standout season in which he scored 19 league goals, including eight in the championship round, finishing as the Israeli Premier League’s top scorer.
