Dor Peretz Turns Down Dubai Offer to Recommit to Maccabi Tel Aviv
Maccabi Tel Aviv captain Dor Peretz returned to training on Thursday evening and was welcomed back by teammates, after a tense week in which his future had seemed uncertain. The first person he met at Kiryat Shalom was Kenny Miller, who had reportedly been worried Peretz might leave and had asked, once he signed, to do everything possible to keep last season’s top scorer at the club.
Peretz had attracted interest from several European teams, including clubs in Hungary, Croatia, Bulgaria and Cyprus. In recent days he also received a far more lucrative offer from Dubai, one that could have changed the picture, but after deliberating he chose to decline it and sign with Maccabi Tel Aviv instead.
Alongside a high base salary, appearance-based payments and bonuses for winning the league, cup or qualifying for a European competition, Peretz’s new deal includes two performance bonuses tied to playing time. He will receive one bonus when he reaches 50% of the team’s matches and a second when he reaches 70%.
Peretz played in 90% of Maccabi Tel Aviv’s games last season, so in a normal campaign without injuries or suspensions he is expected to meet the 70% threshold and collect both bonuses. He signed a contract for three years with two additional club options.
