Dor Peretz’s Future at Maccabi Tel Aviv to Be Decided in Coming Days

Maccabi Tel Aviv captain Dor Peretz is expected to settle his future in the next few days, after the club offered him a new deal with a steep pay cut. Peretz, 31, finished his contract last season and was offered an extension contingent on reducing his salary by tens of percent.

Peretz is due back in Israel from a family vacation tomorrow, and a decisive meeting with club officials is scheduled after his return. Until now, his camp says he has only received a brief email from the club near the end of the season and no real face-to-face talks. The sides will decide in that meeting whether he stays.

Maccabi have slightly improved their offer to $430,000, $30,000 more than the original proposal, but that is still far below his previous pay, which was set at 600,000 euros including bonuses. Peretz wants a two-year contract and, while he has a tempting offer from Beitar Jerusalem, he prefers to remain in yellow.

If negotiations fail, he will consider either joining the Jerusalem club or moving abroad. Meanwhile, Maccabi are also dealing this summer with contract issues involving Roy Revivo and Ido Shahar. Revivo’s camp is angry over Maccabi’s €4 million asking price, while Shahar wants a salary increase from his current $200,000 as a condition for extending a deal that expires next summer.
