Maccabi Tel Aviv is expected to present Dor Peretz with a new contract on Sunday, offering three years plus an option for one more season, according to a report first revealed by ynet. The move comes after Peretz, the club captain, had already reached a basic understanding with Dinamo Zagreb and met with the Croatian club’s president, Zvonimir Boban.
Peretz, 31, traveled to Croatia with his wife to evaluate the club and promised Boban he would give a final answer in the coming days. But on Thursday, he was told by Maccabi Tel Aviv to delay any decision on Zagreb. In the next 24 hours, he is expected to meet Maccabi representatives, with the club hoping to finalize an extension in time for the start of training on Monday.
The proposed deal would pay Peretz 450,000 euros per season, plus possible bonuses of up to 200,000 euros. Last season, he earned 550,000 euros and could have received up to 100,000 euros in bonuses, of which he actually collected about 50,000 euros.
People close to Peretz say the trip to Croatia was not intended to pressure Maccabi Tel Aviv. They say his first choice was always to stay in yellow, and that going abroad was only a fallback option after he did not examine other possibilities beyond Dinamo Zagreb. Maccabi’s late push, after weeks of silence, was influenced in part by the limited talent in the Israeli market, fan protest, and the expected departures of several key pillars from the squad.
