Maccabi Tel Aviv will open preseason training on Monday evening and begin preparations for next season, with Kenny Miller expected to lead the first session as the club’s likely new coach. Only some of the foreign players are expected to take part.
The main issue remains Dor Peretz. The midfielder and captain has still not signed a new deal and is not expected to attend the opening training session. The club is trying to end the standoff and keep him for another season, but wants an answer by tomorrow and plans to move on to other targets if none comes.
The offer already on the table includes a clause tied to the number of appearances Peretz would make each season. If he reaches that threshold, he would recover a large part of the salary deducted from his base pay. Additional bonuses could lift his earnings above his current base salary of 450,000 euros. The contract is for three years plus an option, which the club sees as proof of its desire to keep him. The report says this is not a new proposal, but one made some time ago.
Peretz has also had offers from Dinamo Zagreb, Ferencváros and Omonia Nicosia, as well as one from the Far East, which he rejected. Beyond the Peretz saga, Maccabi plan to strengthen with a foreign center back and a foreign striker, and if left back Roy Revivo leaves this summer, they will also look for a foreign replacement there.
