Maccabi Tel Aviv is trying to persuade captain Dor Peretz to stay by improving the terms of a proposed long-term contract, after the midfielder drew offers from Europe. The club’s new professional director, Steven Vanharen, spoke with Peretz and is expected to meet him within the next day to help keep him at the club.
Vanharen arrived in Israel on Thursday, at the same time Peretz flew to Croatia to examine Dinamo Zagreb’s proposal. Maccabi want Peretz on the pitch Monday for the opening training session under Kenny Miller, who has not yet been officially presented as head coach but is set to lead the team next season.
The other clubs that have submitted offers to Peretz are Sofia 1948 and Ferencvaros, and all of them have asked for an answer within 24 hours. The decision is not purely professional, as personal considerations are also involved.
At Maccabi Tel Aviv, there is hope that the added pressure and the improved deal will convince Peretz to extend his contract and remain with the club for the coming years.
