Maccabi Tel Aviv opened preseason training on Monday as it prepares for next season and for European competition, which begins in exactly one month. The club wants to reach the camp fully ready, both in terms of squad composition and fitness.
Most of the foreign players were absent from the first session, but the club expects all of them to arrive before the team leaves for training camp. Only Cristian Blitz and Ion Nicolaescu took part, and Nicolaescu is still not fully fit for complete training.
Kenny Miller, who is expected to be appointed as the team’s coach, is due to arrive in Israel in the coming days. The club also hopes the Dor Peretz situation will be resolved by Sunday, when the squad is scheduled to depart for camp, so that he can travel with the rest of the team.
The opening practice focused mainly on physical conditioning. The new sporting director, Steven Vanheren, held individual talks with some players, but he has not yet conducted a full team meeting.
