Hundreds attended the funeral on Friday for Captain Eliab Chaim Tzafalamus, who was killed in an operational accident in southern Lebanon. Tzafalamus, 21, from Haifa, was a company commander in the 603rd Engineering Battalion of the 7th Brigade of the IDF.

Lieutenant Colonel Ran Kehani, commander of the 603rd Battalion, eulogized Tzafalamus, describing him as a brave, dedicated, and responsible commander who loved his soldiers and his role. He added that Tzafalamus ensured his soldiers were cared for and was a pleasant, good-looking officer with a great sense of humor.

Tzafalamus's mother, Chali, spoke emotionally at his grave, calling him her "firstborn son, first grandchild, the first to make us parents," and the "compass for his brothers." She expressed disbelief and heartbreak over his early death, asking how the family would continue without him and requesting he send them strength.

The accident occurred when an Humvee overturned near the Litani River in southern Lebanon. Three other soldiers were lightly injured and received medical treatment, with their families notified. Tzafalamus's death brings the total number of soldiers killed in operational accidents since October 7, 2023, to 160.
